Body:The body is the message area where you actually write the message that you want to send. It can be a proffessional letter, memorandum, or a note to a friend or a family member. Try to aviod writing too much in an e-mail and keep it limited to one screen's length. If you have a lot of information that needs to be sent, include it in a attached file.

Attach Files: It is used to add attachments like files, audio, video, etc., in your e-mail.

COMPOSING AN E-MAIL:

  • To write a new e-mail, click on the compose button on the upper left corner of your Gmail window.

  • A New Message window appears as shown in figure 2.5

  • Write the e-mail address of the recipient to whom you want to send the e-mail in the To box

  • Write the subject of your e-mail in the subject box. The subject gives a brief description of your e-mail.

  • NOTE
    Carefully choose the subject line. Using inappropriate subject line or leaving it blank may lead your e-mail to the spam folder of the recipent.


  • If you want to send the same e-mail to various people, you can use one of three options available in Gmail:
  • TO: You can type multiple e-mail address seperated by commas to send the same e-mail to many recipients.
  • Cc [carbon copy]:Using this option, you can send the same e-mail to several recipients at the same time.
  • Bcc [Blind Carbon Copy]: This option is same as Cc with the only difference that the recipients of Bcc field are not visible to recipients of the TO and Cc field. This option is used only when the list of recipients is not to be shared with others.

  • Write the message in the area.

  • You can attach various files, such as documents, images, and links with the e-mail, as per your requirements.

  • SENDING AN E-MAIL

    Once you have composed an e-mail, click on the Send button present at the bottom of the New message window to deliver the e-mail to the specified e-mail address (es). When you send an e-mail, a copy is automatically stored in the sent folder. You can refer to this folder whenever you need to view, resend, or forward a sent mail.

    REPLYING AND FORWARDING E-MAILS

    To reply to an e-mail, follow these steps:
  • Click on the e-mail that you want to open. Clicking on it will open the e-mail message window.
  • You will find Reply, Reply all, or Forward options right below the message.
  • Read the message and respond using one of the above-mentions options. Click on the Reply arrow to respond to the message.

    Simply click on the Reply button present at the bottom of the message.
