Spider/Webcrawler:The search engines use extremely efficient software called Spider or Webcrawler. The spiders continuously crawl on the web to comb out any newly published documents or newsletters and find their web addresses. As soon as a user enters keyboard in a search engine, these spiders crawl from the one server to another in a matter of microseconds to compile a massive list of matching results of URLs. With the blink of an eye,the results appear before us.
Indexing Software: The next step involves the indexing of all search results. The spiders send the list of documents and their web addresses to the indexing software which extract important information from them and prepares an index of the same. This information is stored in a database is used at the time of searching. The level of the indexing varies from one search engine to another. some search engines prefer to index every single word in a document for better search results in the future.
Search Algorithm: Whenever we perform a searching by entering a keyword, the search engine searches its indexed database using a sequential method called a Search Algorithm. Once the search operation is complete the matching documents and their corresponding URLs are displayed to the user.
SEARCH ENGINE TIPS
Some tips to optimise your search results are listed below:
- To get axact results, query in double quotes. For example, if u are searching for best-selling books in india enclose the full sentence into double quotes for example," Best selling books in india". If u do not enclose the query in the double quotes, Google will produce a search result based on individual words from the query.
- Imagine you are searching from a quote and you do not remember it fully. To search for the exact quote, you can enclose the text in double quotes and add asterisk(•) symbol somewhere between the words. For example, the search "There is nothing" "except change" will produce the exact result.
- To ensure that a word or phrase must appear in the search result, add a plus sign (+) before the search word/phrase. Likewise, use (-) symbol to remove certain words or phrases from the query result. For example, "What is good and -bad" will produce results, excluding the word "bad". Similarly, "What is good and +bad" will display query results with word "bad" in the phrase.
- If you find it is difficult to compare two items and you want to make the best choice after going through the difference in that case, add "vs" between search items for best comparision results. For example, "BMW cars vs Jaguar cars".
- Search in the lowercase words is not case sensitive, but the search in uppercase words is case-sensitive.
