About Telangana projects

The following are the dams and reservoirs located in Telangana.[1] Telangana is known as the Land of Dams, Reservoirs, Lakes, Tanks and Canals and has the most number of Dams, Reservoirs, Lakes, Tanks and Canals than any other South Indian state. Telangana Irrigation is going to be face lifted with new Key projects under construction such as Kaleshwaram Project, Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, Sitarama Lift Irrigation, TupakulaGudem, Kalwakurthy Projects.



Explanation: There are 15 exiting major irrigation projects in the State, 15 ongoing (under construction) and another five under contemplation stage.



The Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project or KLIP is a multi-purpose irrigation project on the Godavari River in Kaleshwaram, Bhupalpally, Telangana, India. Currently the world's largest multi-stage lift irrigation project,its farthest upstream influence is at the confluence of the Pranhita and Godavari rivers.



World's largest masonry dam protected with 26 gates measuring 14m in height and 13m in width, Nagarjunasagar Dam located in Nalgonda District is built across River Krishna. The dam has a storage capacity of nearly 11,472 million cubic meters with an irrigation capacity for 10 acres of land.



Ramaraju Vidyasagar Rao (14 November 1939 – 29 April 2017) was an Indian government administrator and a Telangana activist. He was the Chief Engineer of the Ministry of Water Resources, Central Water Commission. After the formation of Telangana State, he was appointed as the Advisor on Irrigation to the Government of Telangana.[1] He was the foremost expert on irrigation projects in Telangana, and was instrumental in highlighting injustices in water allocation for Telangana Region in United Andhra Pradesh.



The Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme was named after him as R. Vidyasagar Rao Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme for his enormous contribution to irrigation in Telangana.[2] He fought for safe drinking water to the fluoride affected Nalgonda district and provide water to the arid lands in the Telangana region.



In 2014, Institute of Engineers (India) has awarded Leading Engineering Personalities of India for their contributions to the Engineering field. The Sub- Market Yard at Jajireddygudem established in January, 2018 is named as "Late Sri Rama Raju Vidyasagar Rao Sub-Market Yard, Jajireddygudem".[14]



The prestigious Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme taken up by the State Government to provide safe drinking water and irrigation facilities to fluoride-affected and drought-prone areas is named after him as R. Vidyasagar Rao Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme.[15][16]



His Birth Day is being celebrated every year by the people of the State as 'Telangana Irrigation Day'. On his 81st Birth Anniversary and 4th Telangana Irrigation Day, 14-11-2020, two statues of Mr Rao are unveiled, one at Telangana Engineers Association Building, Errummanzil and another at Irrigation Department Head Office 'Jala Soudha', Errummanzil, Hyderabad by Minister Sri Jagadishwar Reddy. A meeting celebrating the Irrigation Day is conducted at Institute of Engineers India, Khairatabad.[17][18][19]



R. Vidyasagar Rao Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme is a lift irrigation project in Nalgonda, Telangana, India.[1] It serves Nalgonda, Mahbubnagar and Khammam areas.[2][3] It was named after R. Vidyasagar Rao, a foremost irrigation expert in Telangana.



Nagarjuna Sagar Dam is a masonry dam across the Krishna River at Nagarjuna Sagar which straddles the border between Palnadu district in Andhra Pradesh and Nalgonda district in Telangana.[2] The dam provides irrigation water to the districts of Krishna, Guntur, Palnadu, Prakasam and parts of West Godavari districts of Andhra Pradesh and also Nalgonda, Suryapet, Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem districts of Telangana. It is also a source of electricity generation for the national grid.[3][4][5]
